Associate Dean of Business, Arts & Sciences

The Associate Dean of Business, Arts, and Sciences works with faculty, staff, and CVTC leadership to improve and enhance program effectiveness through planning and delivery of curriculum, the supervision and evaluation of faculty and program support staff, and scheduling of courses and instructors. Responsibilities include ensuring continuing program operation on a day-to-day and long-term basis in areas such as scheduling, budgeting, and meeting operational and equipment needs, as well as oversight of various initiatives that are part of the division, including program enrollment, course delivery, student retention and completion, and assessment of student learning outcomes.

Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership for assigned programs and/or departments in collaboration with the Executive Dean.
• This role has the potential to offer leadership or support across any of the division’s programs or general education requirements.
• Facilitate the development and implementation of new courses, programs, career pathways, and transfer options to meet the needs of students and industry.
• Facilitate the development and maintenance of Content/Blueprint Courses.
• Lead faculty in continuous program review and improvement planning, assessment of student learning, and persistence and completion efforts, as part of the Teaching Excellence Framework.
• Nurture positive engagement across the college and our communities, including industry and educational partners.
• Evaluate performance of program/department personnel in accordance with CVTC policies and procedures.
• Attend program state-called meetings and other college-related meetings, including board meetings, as required.
• Oversee assigned divisional courses, ensuring quality of instruction.
• Coordinate scheduling of courses.
• Ensure alignment of all competencies to outcomes through curriculum mapping.
• Coordinate with the executive dean and program directors and/or department chairs to plan and lead the assigned programs, including advisory committee meetings.
• Promote courses and programs and participate in student recruitment activities.
• Develop and maintain relationships with industry and educational partners.
• Collaborate with educational partners in K12 and four-year universities.
• Support the development of career pathway options and transfer for current and prospective students.
• Coordinate capital equipment and operational budget management for assigned programs/departments in compliance with the College’s fiscal plan.
• Administer grants and complete all necessary grant reporting.
• Facilitate communication among faculty.
• Assist with faculty selection for committee work and recruitment events.
• Develop program and department personnel on a continual basis.
• Collaborate with College Professional Development to support faculty and staff.
• Oversee appropriate staffing for learning and effective/efficient operation of assigned programs and departments; facilitate faculty selection process and evaluation.
• Evaluate performance of program and department personnel in accordance with CVTC policies and procedures.
• Participate on appropriate college teams and contribute to accomplishing the goals and objectives of the team(s).

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Familiarity with the Wisconsin Technical College System instructional and curricular policies, initiatives, processes, and procedures.
• Strong leadership, facilitation, and organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as the ability to work independently toward program/department/divisional goals.
• Ability to use judgment, discretion, and decision-making and conflict resolution skills in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.
• Ability to model integrity through self-awareness, personal accountability, ethical behavior, quality standards, and sustainable practices.
• Ability to think critically by applying problem solving practices, acquiring relevant information, using technology and other resources appropriately, and evaluating alternatives.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate effectively by speaking and writing clearly, concisely, and professionally; practicing active listening; reading critically and adapting communication for audience.

• Intermediate knowledge of and skills with technology including software programs for communication, data collection, and decision making including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel to various campuses and state meetings.

• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university, or master’s degree in progress.
• Minimum of two years teaching experience required, experience at postsecondary level preferred.
• Supervisory or leadership experience in a team management environment preferred.
• Experience with staff development and evaluation preferred.
