  • Overview and Responsibilities

    The Diversity Manager manages and directs programs and services for minority students, students in non-traditional occupation (NTO) programs, international students and students with disabilities. This position will provide leadership to ensure staff are successful in proactively reaching out and meeting the learning needs of our diverse population, creating an environment in which all students have knowledge of, and access to, support services. This position will also coordinate and investigate student affirmative action, equal opportunity, and Title IX issues and is part of the Academic Development and Services team.



    • Direct and coordinate case-management and support services provided to minority students, students with disabilities, international students and students in NTO programs, including the tracking and documentation of that support.
    • Recruit, track, and retain students by aligning strategies and goals of the College Equal Opportunity and Compliance (EOC) plan, with an emphasis of ethnicities other than Caucasian, students with disabilities, international students and students in NTO programs.
    • Direct the advisement and admission process for prospective international students.
    • Plan and coordinate transition services for English Language Learner (ELL) students.
    • Collaborate with appropriate departments, committees, & stakeholders to ensure diversity and inclusivity are embedded in classrooms and support services.
    • Collaborate with Student Life and other departments dedicated to student engagement to plan CVTC's diversity events and activities.
    • Collaborate with appropriate departments and stakeholders to assist with reviewing policies and practices related to equitable student access to educational programs and opportunities, as needed.
    • Participate on appropriate College teams and contribute to accomplishing the goals and objectives of the team(s).
    • Coordinate with the Curriculum and Professional Development team to plan and implement staff in-service sessions as they relate to applicable diversity, disabilities, and student support services.
    • Write, coordinate, and manage relevant state and federal grants that serve historically underserved and underrepresented populations.
    • Write mid-year and end-of-year grant reports, entering student data into the client reporting system.
    • Provide data to the Dean of Academic Development and Services as requested and complete all diversity, equal opportunity, affirmation action, and Title IX reports as required.
    • Serve as the Title IX Deputy Investigator to coordinate, track, and report investigations as it relates to student complaints and concerns.
    • Investigate all affirmative action, equal opportunity, and Title IX issues presented by students to assure a fair hearing is conducted at the college.
    • Document student concerns as they relate to affirmation action, equal opportunity, and Title IX issues.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of one and two-year technical college programs.
    • Knowledge of Equal Opportunity Laws and Title IX.
    • Proven ability to interface with multicultural community-based organizations.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as the ability to work independently toward department goals.      
    • Ability to use judgment, discretion, and decision making skills in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel to various campuses within CVTC’s 11-county district.
    • Ability to model integrity through self-awareness, personal accountability, ethical behavior, quality standards, and sustainable practices.
    • Ability to think critically by applying problem solving practices, acquiring relevant information, using technology and other resources appropriately, and evaluating alternatives.
    • Ability to communicate effectively by speaking and writing clearly, concisely, and professionally; practicing active listening; reading critically and adapting communication for audience.
    • Ability to value diversity by recognizing personal biases, adapting to culturally diverse situations, and demonstrating a commitment to equity, inclusion, and respectful interactions with persons of diverse ethnic, cultural, social-economic, or educational backgrounds.
    • Intermediate knowledge of and skills with technology including software programs for communication, data collection, and decision-making including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel.


    • Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, or related field, master’s degree preferred.
    • Minimum of two years of experience working in higher education.
    • Experience writing or managing grants.
    • Training and/or experience with Equal Opportunity Laws preferred.
    • Bilingual preferred.
