  • Overview and Responsibilities

    The Emergency Services Continuing Education Coordinator is directly accountable to the Executive Dean – Health, Emergency Services, and River Falls Campus. The Emergency Services Continuing Education Coordinator functions as a team leader for FireMedic, Paramedic, and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) continuing education faculty and will work closely with the FireMedic, Paramedic, and EMT Program Director for emergency services course offerings. The Emergency Services Continuing Education Coordinator serves as the American Heart Association training center coordinator as well as the national exam coordinator. Additional responsibilities include instruction in emergency services courses, emergency services continuing education adjunct faculty development and evaluation, new course development, ensuring continuing program operation, oversight of various initiatives that are part of CVTC’s Fire Safety Center including event scheduling, and participation in college activities.



    • Provide supervision for and teach FireMedic, Paramedic, and EMT continuing education courses and contract courses.
    • Serve as the American Heart Association training center coordinator and national exam coordinator including, but not limited to, coordinating testing times and obtaining instructors.
    • Ensure appropriate staffing for efficient and effective operation of emergency services course offerings and supportive services.
    • Facilitate the development and implementation of the continuing education budget including coordination of capital equipment and supply budgets for emergency services continuing education.
    • Facilitate the development and implementation of new emergency services continuing education courses to meet the needs of the emergency services community.
    • Coordinate, including scheduling of, emergency services continuing education courses and customized training.
    • Develop and maintain positive relations with internal and external CVTC community including clinical sites and area municipalities.
    • Assist with course/program evaluation, continuous improvement, and processes.
    • Support and assist with the development of flexible instructional delivery systems, including online instruction.
    • Monitor (evaluate) and ensure performance of emergency services continuing education adjunct faculty.
    • Facilitate emergency services continuing education adjunct faculty and staff selection process.
    • Supervise continuing education adjunct faculty and support staff.
    • Plan for and instruct emergency services courses.
    • Deliver high-quality instruction through the planning and implementation of effective learning strategies and environments.
    • Create performance-based assessments aligned with competencies through formative and summative measures.
    • Promote student success through timely communication, growth-based feedback, and implementation of strategies that meet the needs of diverse learners.

    • Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel to various campuses.


    • Minimum of an associate’s degree in an emergency services field required, bachelor’s degree preferred. An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in any field is acceptable if combined with technical diploma in an emergency services field.
    • Minimum of three years of teaching experience in an emergency services area at post-secondary level required.
    • Minimum of two years (4,000 hours) of occupational experience in an emergency services field, of which at least 1 year (2,000 hours) shall be within 5 years prior to date of hire required. One year (2,000 hours) of recent related occupational experience may be waived if the instructor has at least 2 years of post−secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within 5 years prior to date of hire.
    • Current license/certificate as an Emergency Services Instructor II issued by the State of Wisconsin-Department of Health Services-EMS Section required.
    • Current certification as a Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor by the American Heart Association required.
    • Current Wisconsin licensure as an EMT-Paramedic, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire required.
    • Approval by the physician medical director of the training center required.
    • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred.
    • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
    • Experience with staff development and evaluation preferred.
